As we are praying for Fr. Patrick Peyton’s cause for canonization, Holy Cross Family Ministries East Africa brings you another eye witness during Fr. Patrick Peyton’s visit to Uganda.
Fr. Christopher Kiwanuka Kasajja is a Parish Priest at St. Peter’s Catholic Church Nsambya, Central Uganda; he has been in charge of this parish for 3 years now.
He was ordained 48 years ago in priesthood and he’s 78 years of age.
Fr. Christopher started with appreciating God for Fr. Peyton, the servant of God who emphasized the Rosary Prayer in Uganda.
‘’I got a chance to meet Fr. Peyton in person in 1955’’….. Said Fr.Christopher.
He said by that time he was 14 years of age and had just joined Nyenga Minor Seminary in his first year. The rector of the Seminary Fr. John Renkens spear headed them to Nakivubo stadium in Kampala to witness the man of God who was emphasizing on family unity and Rosary prayer and many people gathered.
‘’The main points that he put more emphasis on were, The Family That Prays Together Stays Together and The World at Prayer is The World at Peace’’…..said Fr. Christopher.
Fr. Patrick Peyton taught about the power of prayer and importance of prayer in the family and referred to the Holy Rosary of Mary. He shared with them how his mother did not want him to go to USA, that he would get spoilt. Fr. Peyton only told her to pray the Holy Rosary and become a devotee.
Fr. Christopher said that from the emphasis Fr. Peyton put on the Rosary prayer, he vowed to recite his rosary every day. He says, it’s one of his daily activities that he cannot live without.
‘’I grew up in a prayerful family and we used to pray together as a family’’…..noted Fr. Christopher.
Fr. Christopher urges Christians to pray their rosaries because a rosary summarizes the bible especially for those that are weak in reading the word of God.
He appreciated the Congregation of Holy Cross for establishing a family office in his Parish that emphasizes the Rosary Prayer especially in families; it has helped in boosting people’s faith.
Fr. Christopher promised to continue having a good relation with the family ministries office because they promote the works of the servant of God Fr. Patrick Peyton CSC.
