Holy Cross Family Ministries brings you yet another eye-witness during Fr. Peyton’s visit to Uganda in 1955.
Sr. Bazil Adiko is a reverend sister from Little Sisters of St. Francis Nkokonjeru, she’s now at Our Lady of Angels convent Nsambya.
She shared with us the little that she still remembers about Fr. Peyton’s visit, his emphasis on family unity and prayer ‘’A Family That Prays Together Stays Together’’ and A World at Prayer is a World at Peace.
Sr. Basil said that this inspired her to pray the Holy Rosary every day; she is now a devotee of Mother Mary. She makes sure that she prays her rosary 3 times a day.
She urges Christians to pray the rosary as they meditate on it because the more one becomes a devotee, becomes closer to heaven.
However, she shares the story of her life and what inspired her to join nun hood.
I grew up in a prayerful family; my father was a catechist who used to organize even adults for prayers at the church. Morning and evening prayers especially the rosary prayer was a must at home. We used to attend Sunday mass as a family, my dad always urged us to sit in front when in the church, so that we look at the priest during mass to present all our troubles in the chalice before the Lord.
I attended a catholic school in Tororo my home district, it was managed by Little sisters of St. Francis Nkokonjeru. They used to pray in the chapel every evening and I loved the way they were committed to the prayers, the way they were conducting themselves, they were highly respected by the community.
This greatly inspired me to join nun hood.
However, as a young girl, I went through a challenge of men who abstracted me and wanted to start a relationship with me. They used to write to me love letters, drop them on the way where I used to pass. This did not stop me from struggling for my dream, I used to get them and burn them without any reply.
It did not even stop on that, a man even contempt to get me out of the convent, showing his interest in me, I stick to my mission of becoming a reverend sister and here I am today.
I urge everyone to stand firm toward their missions, most especially if it’s God’s calling.
