Celebrating love in a christian way

As our routine here at Holy Cross Family Ministries, we celebrate love on this special day of Valentines, but in a Christian way.

The function started  at 2pm with a Eucharist celebration led by Fr. Muhigirwa Charles( Chaplain, Bishop Kyihangire, Luzira Kampala and the co- celebrant was Holy Cross Family Ministries Director, Fr. Leonard Olobo, CSC  at YES Centre Nsambya and more than 400 couples turned up for the celebrations.

In his homily, Fr. Charles urged the couples to renew their marital vows every now and then. He added that when married couples get misunderstandings in their marriage, they have to first remember what inspired them to each other before making final decisions of divorcing.

‘’ God is there in your marriage, when there are challenges, sit down together and resolve your issues before involving another person because marriage is between two parties. Then after, pray together and seek for God’s intervention in your marriage….said Fr. Charles.

He also appealed to the husbands to be aware that before the Lord, we are all equal so there is no need of tending to be superiors in their homes.

Fr. Charles concluded the homily by calling upon the couples to be exemplary in the communities they come from, so that they persuade those that are not yet married to also receive the Holy Matrimony.

Married couples renewed their marital vows and given a special blessing then after certificates of participation were awarded to them.  Fr. Charles also prayed for the couples who were not married to have a commitment.

The guest speakers was a couple from Emmus Centre Katikamu, Luwero Diocese, Mr. and Mrs. Ndoodhe. They also emphasized on what Fr. Charles said to the couples, of first solving their issues before sharing them with other people.

They also advised women to give respect to their husbands, as it is in Buganda kingdom, kneeling down before your husband is a sign of respect and most men love this respect, so women were encouraged to always do things that their husbands love and want in order to have a happy marriage.

In this session, there was a prayer moment where couples prayed for each other and a moment of remembering the mistakes in their marriage and were asked to forgive each other.

Fr. Leonard Olobo CSC, Director Holy Cross Family Ministries gave the closing remarks and said, the reason for the function was to bring together the couples, celebrate love on this special day in a Christian way.

‘’A family is the first foundation, if it’s not there then there is no a home, so prayer has to be part of a family especially when you pray together as a family. Always pray together as a family because ‘’ The family that prays together stays together’’.

I urge to you all to seek for reconciliation and forgiveness in case you have misunderstandings in your marriage, for your marriage to be a success.

Please note this date on your calendars come next year, we will again have this celebration.

I also want to thank the organizing committee for this successful   function…..said Fr. Leonard.

Dinner was served and everything was in plenty, the couples enjoyed the day, then after the cake was cut and served to the couples. Couples also exchanged gifts to each other as a sign of appreciating each other for being together in their marriage.

The dancing floor was open to the couples, most couples got the best experience ever, of dancing together after a long time. One couple was heard saying… ‘’We attend wedding parties, served very well with food but we are not given this chance of dancing together. This has been a long will ever since we danced together, credit goes to Holy Cross Family Ministries for this function. We have enjoyed the day.

We concluded the function in time, so that the couples go back home in time, being in the period of elections.
