We visited Getrude a widow, at her home in Kanyogoga slum, Muyenga Namuwongo, a Kampala suburb.
She survives her family on the local food business, that she prepares everyday and sells it in the evening . Getrude says that, there is a lot of competition where she sells this food, that some workmates of hers have even resorted to witchcraft just to get customers. ''Before i go to sell my food, i first pray for God's blessings and indeed he blesses me and i finish it all…said Getrude.
Getrude also shared with us her pains, how she lost her sister and 2 brothers consecutively.
‘’I lost my big sister last year and 2 brothers last month on the same day. They have been so helpful to me and my children, one of my late brothers Phillip, constructed for me this house I am living in. I was living in a very poor state, but he helped me, I thank God for the gift of his life and courage he gave him while on earth…..said Getrude while tears were rolling on her cheeks.
She talked about her worry about her mother who is in a poor state because of losing her 3 children. ‘’Mother makes statements that really confuse us, she says that God has forgotten about her that’s why He’s punishing her…..said Getrude.
According to Getrude, her mother is a catholic but because of losing her children, it was too much for her and she ended up making such statements.
''I also have difficulties in taking care of my family, the children's tuition, I play both parts of a mother and a father. But I believe that God is on my side, He always makes a way for me….said Getrude.
We comforted her through prayers, encouraged her to pray and also requested her to join our Peyton Prayer Guild every Monday as we pray for families especially those that are unstable.
