In our Home Visit Programme, we visited Nsambya Kevina slum. We met Beatrice Adong at her home with her 3 year old son, Paul Achieng.
She has been in marriage (not married in church) for over 3 years, but the husband (names withheld) has other 2 wives in the village. Beatrice who told us this while tears were rolling from her eyes, added that the man revealed this to her, after she had given birth to their son Paul.
She said that the husband is now an addict to alcohol that they can no-longer pray together as a family. He comes late in the night drunk, straight to bed. She said they have no time to talk together as a family.
‘’I am so prayerful, ever since my husband started behaving this way, have been praying for him to change his ways, but I am not seeing any change’’….said Beatrice.
We encouraged her to continue praying for her husband, never lose hope; God changes people’s hearts from stone to fresh.
‘’I am not working; I only depend on my husband. But my worry is that my mother is now sick, I cannot even send her some money for medication. I talked to my husband to get me some money to go and see my sick mother, he told me not to involve him in my family affairs. I am so down that I cannot concentrate in whatever I am doing, I do not want my mother to die’’…..said Beatrice.
Beatrice’s mother, Achika Caroline has a high blood pressure and diabetes.
We encouraged her to put trust in Mother Mary especially in this month of October, the month of the Holy Rosary.
Beatrice told us her challenge of not knowing to recite the Rosary, before we left, we taught her how to pray.
We prayed with her and also urged her to join us for adoration every Monday at 3pm and surrender all her burdens to God.
