Mr. Wanyama sharing with us his story

Serving God for better for worse

In our home visit program, we visited St. Pontiano Catholic Sub-Parish catechist, Mr. Wanyama at his home in the police Barracks.

We visited him after hearing of his operation at St. Rapheal Hospital Nsambya. According to him, he was operated 4 times over an intestinal blockage.

Despite his sickness, he is still running the sub-parish as a catechist. He also shared with us the challenges he's going through ever since he became the catechist in 1991.

This is a sub-parish that was started way back, 25 years ago, but it’s still in a poor condition without interiors and exteriors. When it rains, it floods, being in a swampy area.

We also witnessed this when we went there, this is a rainy season and it was full of mud.

Wanyama narrated to us the story of the church,

’’ We started from nothing to something, we are happy for this church however much it’s not complete, we thank God that we have somewhere to praise and worship the Lord. When we are to have mass, we have to get the things we use, that I keep in my house. We cannot leave them in the church because it has no windows and doors, for security purposes, we have to move them to the church then back to my house. This is hectic especially in this condition that I am, but what can I do? I have to serve my God.

I call upon the good hearted people to come and support us in any way possible. We also have plans of building a hospital and a school, at the moment, we have a nursery section but also in a poor condition….said Wanyama.

However, on that day, Mr. and Mrs. Wanyama were celebrating 25 years in marriage. They were very happy for the visit because we blessed their day with a prayers and also encouraged them to pray the Holy Rosary together as a family.

Mr. and Mrs. Wanyama shared with us what has helped them reach this far.

‘’In marriage there are ups and downs but when you wrong each other, it is a matter of saying sorry to each other and life goes on. We respect each other, my children have never seen me fighting their mother or quarrelling with her.

We believe that God blessed our marriage, we have to live by example to our children and inspire them to this vocation. We thank God for blessing us with 11 children but now we have 9 left, the 3 passed on…..said Mr. and Mrs. Wanyama.

Mr. Wanyama is a faithful man to God and a committed husband to his wife. He never loses hope in God and believes that no condition is big before God.

How many of us have faith in God, hopeful in all the conditions we are going through and are committed to our vocations just like Mr. Wanyama?
