3 days Retreat at Uganda Martyrs Namugongo

As terms are coming to an end, we receive invitations from schools to facilitate to their students. This time around we facilitated a 3days retreat at Uganda Martyrs  Namugongo and it took place from 30th August to 1st September 2016 at the school main hall, under the theme ‘’Turn 50 years with Excellence’’

At least 2000 students participated in this retreat.

According to Fr. Ssegawa, the school chaplain, the administration wants the students to excel not only in academics but also the spiritual well-being.

‘’You know we are celebrating 50 years of the school’s existence, so we want our students to be successful in life. We called you people of Holy Cross Family Ministries to help us strengthen their spiritual well-being. We believe that God is the first priority in everyone’s excellence…..said Fr. Chaplain.

We started the retreat with encouraging words from Desire (team member and an Old Girl), who encouraged the students to work hard, ‘’It is through hard work that we excel in life, of course with God by our side…..said Desire.

The students were also encouraged to take education serious because it is the key to success. ‘’In many schools relationships are rare and they hinder the students’ education hence leading many to repeating classes. Please wait for the right time, there is no need to rush…..said Larry during his talk on sex education.

Many students have a low self -esteem and this affects their social life, we also taught them about self-esteem, to always believe in themselves.

‘’Believe in yourself, always say, yes I can do it! I promise you u will achieve it in Jesus’ name….noted Betty during her talk on self-esteem.

God loves us, He calls us his children, no matter how we wrong him, still forgives us with love. We taught them about God’s love and encouraged them to love God just as He loves us. ‘’Make Jesus your best friend! Noted Sharon.

We explained the types of families to the students and how best they can live in these families especially when they pray together because ‘’A family that prays together stays together’’.

The students were given a chance to write questions and most questions were answered by Holy Cross Family Ministries Director, Fr. Olobo Leonard,CSC.

He also talked about the ministry, how we came into existence, what we do and how we do it.

Fr. Leonard asked the students whether they come from families.

’’You have to build the school as your family because you spend more time here, start being serious and determine your career. It’s through hard work that many people excel….said Fr. Leonard.

We also conducted counselling sessions and realized that parents have not taken initiative to get into the lives of their children. As parents, we need to know each and everything that is happening with our children. Let us give them time, they need us.

As Holy Cross Family Ministries, we encourage families to always pray together because

‘’A family that prays together stays together’’.
